YWCA is the largest provider of domestic violence programs and shelters in the US.

strong alone. fearless together.

Since 1915, the YWCA of Niagara has actively worked to eliminate racism and empower women.  Originally named the YWCA of Lockport, the agency expanded its service base in 1996 and became a county-wide provider of services to women and girls. With more than a dozen programs and services, the YWCA of Niagara provides: a comprehensive alternatives to domestic violence, a 24/7 staffed domestic violence hotline and shelter for women and children, transitional housing, a supportive housing for homeless women and children at Carolyn’s House, a fitness center, girls sports programs and much more.

The YWCA of Niagara is a part of the larger YWCA of the USA and World YWCA movement, which began in the late 19th century, as a provider of housing, recreation and employment services for women.  A national pace setter in the field of racial justice, the YWCA held the first interracial conference in the South in the early 20th century. The YWCA continues to tackle the serious problems of social justice, housing, pay equity, domestic violence, and comprehensive health for women.

Women’s voices, over time, have blended to create the vision that makes and keeps the YWCA of Niagara strong, even in the face of change and challenge. Change has strengthened us, renewing our commitment to eliminating racism and empowering women.  We are “Strong Alone. Fearless Together.”
